I've been a voracious reader since I was a wee little lass. Books were my one true love growing up (yes, I was a nerd). While my parents thought I was all snuggly asleep in my bed, I would actually be reading well into the night, using the glow from the street lights to lead my eyes across the pages. Now, I belong to a ladies book club and currently on our list is American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld - a New York Times bestseller. Did I mention it's pretty thick? Yup, like a cankle. I need to devour 555 pages by mid-March. Um, I haven't even started yet. I may be seeing a few more late nights.
What about you? What book(s) are you reading right now? My fav tomes include Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez but I also like a light & fluffy read now and then. I'd love to hear what's on your must-read list!
p.s. Did you know that the amazing Edmonton Public Library offers book club kits? It surely does! Isn't the EPL the best? :)
Oooh I LOVE books!! I love getting recommendations about them too!! I just read "The Help" by Katheryn Stockett and really enjoyed that one! We'll have to email each other because I have a huge list of ones I liked!
ReplyDeleteHaha, "cankle".
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I haven't started either :)
Sheri - yay! A fellow book nerd! I'll have more book posts in the near future...including one for the kiddies! p.s. thanks for visiting!
ReplyDeleteChristine - thank goodness, I'm not alone! Happy reading friend! :)
Hi Dajana! Congratulations on the blog!! I LOVE BOOKS!!! I belong to two bookclubs -- well a book and a flook club -- in the later, we read books that have been made into movies and get together to watch the movie while enjoying awesome food!! I too read "The Help" recently and loved it. I just finished "The Thirteenth Tale" by Dianne Setterfield and loved it! My recent favourite book list is too long to note here!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading your posts!!
Hi Thamarai! I'm so glad you came for a visit. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that you belong to a flook club - what a super idea! I'm going to pass that one on to my own book club. I hope they go for it!
And if they don't, let me know when your flook club is accepting new members! Just joshing. ;)
So, we have two votes for "The Help" now - I'm definitely adding it to my must-read list.
The American Wife was not what I had anticipated. This book is basically a ficticious account of George Bush's life. I am not a Bush fan, so I found parts of the book irritating and slow. This is not a fast read and is interesting more for the current event aspect than for the shear enjoyment of reading.
ReplyDeleteLuxembourg - I 100% agree with your assessment of The American Wife. Disappointing, at best. I just finished reading Room by Emma Donoghue - great read!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting! (:
