j. crew men's collection arrives in edmonton

Come August 28, the J.Crew men's collection will be available at West Edmonton Mall.

I'm happy to share this news with my fashionable fella. The last time we visited J.Crew, Scott patiently waited in the shoe section while I painstakingly perused all of the lady items. Not anymore! In just a few weeks, he'll have his very own menswear section to peruse - including suiting, outerwear, shoes and accessories.

Another thing I'm really looking forward to is seeing Scott in a Ludlow suit. Just like this handsome violin-playing gent:
J. Crew

The dapper gents pictured are part of J. Crew's new feature Hello, World! that shows eight stylish movers and shakers from Hong Kong to Madrid wearing their J.Crew best on a regular day.

It's a nice reminder that good style is, actually, universal.

shop talk: pottery barn is coming to edmonton!

Our fair city is becoming quite the retail magnet: Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, J. Crew, Simons, Target and now Pottery Barn. Yup, PB (and its kitchenware sister Williams Sonoma) are set to open in West Edmonton Mall this fall.

According to the Edmonton Journal, the new PB will be 15,000 square feet chockfull of upscale home decor heaven.  The Williams-Sonoma store will be about half that size and carry everything a cooking aficionado would ever need or want.

I like to pop in to PB whenever I visit Chinook Centre in Calgary. On my last trip, I picked up this handsome guy. My favourite glass pitcher had recently cracked (boo!) and I needed a replacement. The handsome guy's classic clean lines appealed to me and at just $30, my pocketbook didn't turn itself inside out when I went to pay. He'll be put to very good use this summer when I make this delish drink.

So, I guess this news means road trips to Calgary will be no more. Ha! Who am I kidding? There’ll always be a reason to hit up Calgary for some retail therapy.

Happy Wednesday, friends! Yoga retreat pics will be up tomorrow.

p.s. I'm really diggin' this ikat dot organic sheet set. What's on your PB wishlist?

j.crew update: let's hear it for the boy!

Some new deetz on J.Crew's Canadian expansion! The U.S. retailer has confirmed they'll be opening 5,657 square feet of retail space in West Edmonton Mall on June 7 (read more here and here). Two other stores will also open across the country - on Vancouver's Robson Street in the spring and in Toronto's Eaton Centre this fall.

The best part? For the first time in Canada, the stores will carry the highly coveted men's collection.

“Since introducing the brand in Canada last year, the response to J.Crew has been absolutely electric,” said Jenna Lyons, President and Creative Director of J.Crew in a press release this morning.  “We’re excited to be opening combined men’s and women’s stores and are working to curate our high quality fashion collections for each market.”

I'm excited to get my guy into one of their Ludlow suits. There's nothing sexier than a man in a natty tailored suit. Hellooo!

j. crew springs into edmonton!

Screen Shot 2012-01-28 at 1_01_16 PM

How about a little J.Crew to brighten up your Wednesday afternoon? The beginnings of the retailer's spring collection arrived online last week, and I am completely smitten with its punchy colours and classic tailoring.

I also did a bit of sleuthing (investigative journalism, you might call it) and learned that J. Crew's arrival in Edmonton may be sooner than what was initially announced.  Although unconfirmed, it looks like J.Crew will be opening its doors in Edmonton on June 7. Yay! I promise to let you know when that date is made official.

When those doors do spring open, I'm hoping these bright yet classic covetables will be waiting for me.

See anything you like? I have a major crush on the gorgeous collegiate green Tillary purse, the neon pink Schoolboy blazer and the warm jade Café Capri pants. I really dig these items and am calling dibs on them, ladies.

Are you looking forward to J.Crew's arrival, too? If so, I'll see you on the 7th. Save me a spot in the lineup, will ya?

shop talk: banana republic has mad (men) style!

Love the retro glamour shown on Mad Men? You're in luck. This week, Banana Republic debuts a fashion line inspired by the hit show. And guess what, local gals? Although the offical launch date is August 11, the collection has already arrived in Edmonton! This is welcome news as the retailer's recent offerings have been pretty ho hum, with the exception of my sunshiney bag, of course.

These stylish threads were designed for a martini-sipping, lipstick-wearing, executive lifestyle, wouldn't you say?

The 65 piece capsule collection is the brainchild of Janie Bryant - the Emmy Award-winning costume designer of Mad Men,
and Simon Kneen, creative director at Banana Republic.

You may know by now that it's the full skirts, dresses with pockets and animal print cardis that are calling my name. There's something to admire in a refined appearance, careful fit and chic silhouette. I also love the vintage-inspired bags and shoes in bold leopards and rich reds to the perfectly tailored suits that will have the boyfriend looking like Don Draper in no time (yay!). The colour palettes are lovely too - the grays and browns for the men's suiting and the brighter, more fun and kitschier colours for the womenswear. Ultimately, these are wearable pieces for classy ladies who bring home the bacon and who like to entertain. Like me! (;

And whether you're more of a Joan or a Betty, you'll have no problem emulating the same 60s-inspired looks with these elegant pieces. Consider it something to hold you over until the long-awaited new season of Mad Men premieres next year.

Happy shopping!

shop talk: j.crew's coming to edmonton!

J. Crew devotees! It’s happy dance time for you. The iconic U.S. fashion retailer is set to open its doors in West Edmonton Mall in the summer of 2012.

For those who aren’t familiar with the J. Crew brand, here are some of the looks you will find.

Classic, polished, all American.

Schoolboy blazer

Amie stripe maxi dress

Interestingly enough, some JC lovers may not be over the moon with this news. I was perusing the blog, J. Crew Aficionada and happened upon this comment: I love the fact that I don't see my clothes coming and going when I'm in Canada. The "exclusivity" factor is a big plus for me.

Whether you're feeling a happy rush or not, you can continue to shop the retailer's chic & casual wares online - until their #yeg arrival next year.

For more deetz on JC's second north of the border move, check out today's Edmonton Journal article.

Happy Monday friends!

p.s. I'm really loving ikat lately, can you tell? ;)

shop talk: crate & barrel's coming to edmonton!

Boy, was I excited when I spied this sign at Southgate Centre last week.

C'est vrai! A Crate & Barrel is setting up shop in Edmonton this fall, which means 3 hour jaunts to Calgary will no longer be needed. Très bon!

I can't wait to peruse the kitchen gadgets, tableware, bath accessories, linens, rugs, lamps, amazing accents and of course, lovely furniture pieces for every room in the house! I wish I was getting married this year so I could set up a wedding registry with them. ;)

As for my first purchase? I think it might be this grey ikat pillow.

Now, if only West Elm could make a presence in our fair city. That would make me twice-happy.

Happy Monday friends!

shop talk: canada is on target!

Many of the fashion bloggers I follow regularly wear items purchased from the ubiquitous Target (over 1,700 stores in the US!).  I’ve often wished I was able to purchase those same affordably stylish items.

Wish no more! My northern ladyfriends and I will soon have the opportunity to shop our little red bulls eye hearts out, as the 109-year-old retailer recently unveiled its Canadian store locations.

via msn
In Edmonton, Target stores will be found at Kingsway Garden Mall, Bonnie Doon & Mill Woods Town Centre. There'll also be a store at St. Albert Centre and the Sherwood Park Mall. Calgary will see six Target stores open, including one in Chinook Centre and Market Mall.

I, for one, am quite excited for Target's arrival – especially the designer clothing & home goods collections.

Is one of the above locations near you? 'My' store is only a 5 minute drive from my house. Super!

Happy Friday friends! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Dajana  :)
